Mood can have various influences on our memory. Positive mood might negatively impact working memory storage capacity. For example, when we are in a good mood, we might not be able to remember a phone number obtained at a party. However, the effect of mood on learning and long-term memory (LTM) retention is not always straightforward and depends on a series of factors. Also, the affect-memory effect indicates that our current mood can influence our memory of past experiences, causing deviations from the actual events. When we are in a sad or anxious mood, we may vividly remember negative past events and filter out the positive ones.
